Crafty Christmas

So thought that I would give a bit of a personal touch to my christmas gifts this year and decided to whip up a few outfits for my little cousins.

The last two images are reversable so if they spill something (like most kids do) they can just turn them inside out.

Still need to take some pictures of the 2 maxi skirts that I made for myself.

Till next time

Shoes glorious shoes

Well I have stuck to my no clothes shopping deal (almost 2 months now - so proud of myself and Mazzy for battling through) but that does not extend to shoes!

I came across these in Nine West when I was waiting for the girls to go and see Twilight - Breaking Dawn (yes I am a closet Twilight fan). Fell in love with them on the first stride. Couldn't decide between yellow or black and opted for the yellow. I have never had a pair of shoes this comfortable before, wear them all day at work and then out after, bliss.

Had to restrain myself the next day from going back and buying them in black as well. However, hehe I did get a pair of royal blue summer sandals from Zara and a tan pair of thick strapped sandals too....

Think thats my sandal collection set for summer, now bring on the warmer weather.

Till next time.

Let them eat cake....

Well it was a nightmare but the final product turned out ok. Have to say that this cake was a comedy of errors, from the fondant not sticking to the images not unsticking lol.

It was a red and green velvet cake to keep in with the Rabbitohs theme, icing was white choc and cream cheese, with a layer of white fondant covered in more white choc. Nom nom nom.

Suffice to say it was an awesome day and the birthday boy even shed a tear. Happy 30th Patty!

Snip snip snip

Well I am proud to announce that my fringe is now long enough to wear out! Yay!!! Thank god for GHDs I have no idea how I would get on without mine.

A couple of weeks ago my parents were over visiting from NZ and we went out to an amazing Polish restaurant called Alchemy Cafe on Crown St in Surry Hills. I highly recommend this place as the food is delish, portions always satisfy and the staff (our waiter) are downright hot!! This is the pork and potatoe rosti that I had, reminded me of my nanas cooking - nom nom nom.

So Betty has finally been used! I made a couple of skirts on the weekend as it was actually quite disturbing that she was sitting in our lounge naked. Cannot wait to really get my sew on.

Serious applause has to go out to my awesome flatmate Gillian for creating this pavalova masterpeice last night. Suffice to say that this was her first attempt ever and I am impressed. Now that I know she has these skills for all parties now on she will be the designated dessert chick :) Hope there is still some left when I get home tonight.

Its my friend Pats 30th Birthday today! So being the craft critter that I am (with the help of my trusty sidekick Mazzy) we have made the following card in celebration of all things Patrick - I have a feeling once he sees this we will deffo be off his christmas card list. Keep your eyes peeled for another birthday creation.

Well thats all from me for now.

Till next time.

Formulations

Argh I appologise for being a slack cat. But I come bearing good news!!

We have a graphic designer for our business! Keep you peepers on this page as soon (fingers crossed) we will have our logo and website sussed. Feel like things are finally on track again now and gaining momentum fast. Have requests coming in already eeek, need to lock in some serious sewing time.

On another note we had our monthly stitch n bitch session on Saturday. Was a lovely day gossiping with the girls, getting our craft on and singing along to late 90's/early 00's music (scary that I can still remember all the lyrics yet can't remember anything else I learnt at highschool). I made a gorgeous floral green two layer skirt for Gillian and now want to make one myself.

Well with Betty I can.......yip I have named her already and she is going to help me create numerous items as I have found that it is just a pain in the proverbial to try and fit things on myself and ends up being a bit of hit and miss with my measurements sometimes.

Anyway keep a look out for our new logo soon!!

Till next time,

Pinterest

I was recently told about this site by my friend Mazzy and I have to say that I am hooked!!

Pinterest is an online pinboard that allows you to store all the links and images of things that you find online and share them with your fellow pinners.

Its such a cool way for me to keep a track of all the recipes that I like, my sewing inspiration, craft ideas and general inspiration and all things lovely.

Quite ironic really as I have just started using my physical pinboard at home - oh well this completes the pie.

So if you want to see some of the things that are inspiring me now or ideas for my next craft project head on over to http://pinterest.com/nickersc/

Till next time.

Going in for the chop

I am currently deliberating whether to go in for the chop - my hair that is!

I have had long hair since I left uni as its just so easy to tie up out of the way for sport, but now that the hockey season is over I have the urge to chop it!!

Have had a bob before and a fringe and would like to combine the two. Soooo nervous as my hair is like my security blanket. But I am a big girl and I think I can handle it and really think I need a more professional look for work other than the pony tail (I'm not 5 anymore lol).

This is what I was pondering.....

Beautiful Heidi Klume with a side swept bang

Love the blunt fringe and layers on Paula Abdul

Love the funky choppy layers (but alas my hair is not that thick boo)

Let me know what you think.

Will have to post some pics of the final result next week - wish me luck.

Till next time.

Kutie Pie

First of all I have not broken my shopping pledge, so hear me out....

I couldn't resist. When the Westfeild email hit my inbox I was soooooo excited, I knew I just had to get my hands on one.  So I bought one then and there.

Again the shopping pledge is for clothing only and does not extend to accessories and bags! Hehe so here is my purchase.

Kardashian Kollection Push lock Blue and Cream bag!!!

Cannot wait for this puppy to hit my desk at work - I will be checking my pidgeon hole all week (not that it would fit in a pidgeon hole but you get the idea).

Let me know what you think :)

Till next time.

Slack Sally

First of all I think I deserve a slap across the wrist for being so slack with my postings lately. Oooooops my bad.

So much has been going on. Firstly I am happy to report that the 6 month non shopping slog has started off well and no clothing purchases to report (considering were only 10 days in), the only thing I have purchased recently was an entertainment unit for our TV (second hand might I add).

Secondly I have begun sewing a new dress to wear to a wedding in 2 weeks time. This will be my after work project as all my weekends over the next couple of months are chocka with either weddings, birthdays, events, or family visits.

Thirdly, I have also started to make some of my chirstmas presents! The weather in Sydney hasn't been the best so I have claimed a spot on the couch made several cups of tea and got my cross stitch on. Its a nice personal innexpensive gift and have found so much inspiration online from the likes of Etsy.

Finally, in order to keep track of all my projects / inspiration / stuff for the business I have attached a pinboard above my sewing area (I was starting to lose track of what I have on the go), however at the moment it is looking rather bare.  Just need to find the time to actually fill it with stuff!

Well I will post some pics soon of the progress I am making with the dress.

Till next time.

Refashion Fun

Well out with the old and in with the....well old. You might be thinking I've gone batty but as a matter of fact I have come to the realisation that I hardly wear some of the clothes that I own, and it doesn't help that my drawers and wardrobe are chocca full. Yes my name is Nicola and I have a shopping addiction. There is nothing like the feeling you get when the shop assistant swipes your card.

So as I have been doing a little bit of refashioning already (aka altering clothes you own into something fabulous) in an attempt to curb my shopping habbit and save some coin I am going to make a pledge that for 6 months I will not purchase any new clothes (underwear excluded) starting from the 1st of October.

Fingers crossed I am not going to go at this alone. Hopefully I can convince my lovely friend Maz to join my crusade. We both have things that we are trying to save for, then again hers is bigger than mine - like a thing called a wedding :)

Now to get my thinking cap on as to how I can turn some of my old bottom of the drawer haven't seen the light of day in a while stuff into items that I never want to remove.

Wish me (us) luck!

Till next time,
Nic xx

Grey Goodness

So my gorgeous friend Gemma is getting married in a few weeks time and I have decided that rather than buy a dress to wear to the wedding I am going to attempt to make one and save some pennies. This is the pattern that I will be using and I have picked up some amazing light grey linen.

Vogue Pattern #1207

Now the next mission will be to find some amazing statement heels to go with it :)

Till next time.

Sweet Scents of Spring

The sun was shining but boy was it cold. Went for a wander down to The Rocks to check out what was on offer at the markets. Also made some new cushion covers as I mentioned in my last post. This one shows the wicked fabric that I used, has a 70s vintage feel to it.

Slightly better picture of the fabric

Dr Who anyone??

One of the art installations at MCA - completely made out of old umbrellas

Angle Place Sydney - makes me want to get a bird cage

We came across this ad that spits out free Yoplait Fruche - nom nom nom

Quick stop in at DJs to check out their Spring Flower Show - one word SPRING!!

Just wanted to bundle them all up and take them home.

Been working on a few new patterns and only some minor alterations needed. Soon my life will be nothing but sewing once hockey is over this weekend - Grand Final here we come!!

Wish us luck :)

Till next time.

Vibing Vintage

So another weekend been and gone but what a fun filled weekend it was. A spot of brunch followed by some  fabric and vintage shopping, could have spent a fortune but restricted myself to a few meters of some lovely linen and cotton from Tessuti in Surry Hills. OMG this store is amazing!! Not to mention the gorgeous dresses on offer at one of my favourite vintage stores Grandma Takes a Trip. Absolute inspiration.

This is another little critter I made this weekend (spotty dog/rabbit it can't decide)

So I also made a trip to Spotlight and picked up some amazing turquoise and chocolate upholstery fabric to make some new couch cushions to replace the mismatched lime green and cream ones we currently have, these will be my project for next weekend. Photos to follow :)

Till next time.
